Phonics and Reading
At Cadmore End, we help children develop a love of books alongside the skills they need to become confident readers. Stories, songs, rhymes and conversations are part of everyday life in Nursery and Reception, building children’s vocabulary, listening and understanding.
In Nursery, children explore sounds through games, music and rhyme, laying the foundations for phonics. In Reception, we use Twinkl Phonics to teach children the links between letters and sounds, how to blend sounds to read words and how to segment words for spelling.
We work closely with families to support reading at home. Sharing stories, talking about books and practising reading little and often all make a difference. The guides and videos below explain our approach and offer practical ways to help your child.
