Our Early Years Curriculum

Intent, Implementation, Impact

At Cadmore End, our Nursery and Reception give children a happy, nurturing start to school life. Guided by our vision, ‘From small beginnings come great things’, we build on each child’s interests, experiences and individual starting points.

Through purposeful play, carefully planned teaching and outdoor exploration, including Forest School, children develop their communication, confidence, independence and curiosity.

The statement below explains what we want children to learn (Intent), how we support their learning (Implementation) and how we assess their progress and prepare them for their next steps (Impact).

Early Years Curriculum

Our Early Years curriculum gives children in Nursery and Reception opportunities to play, explore, ask questions and develop a love of learning. We build on each child’s interests and starting points through purposeful play, carefully planned teaching and warm, supportive interactions.

Learning covers all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, with a strong focus on communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development. Our indoor and outdoor spaces, including weekly Forest School, help children develop confidence, independence and curiosity.

The Nursery and Reception overviews below show our planned learning themes. These provide a flexible starting point, allowing staff to respond to children’s interests and needs throughout the year.

Feelings and Self-Regulation

We help children recognise and talk about their feelings, build positive relationships and gradually develop ways to manage their emotions. Through warm interactions, stories, play and adult support, children learn that all feelings are valid and that help is available when they need it. We use approaches such as Zones of Regulation to give children simple language for understanding how they feel.
