Music at Cadmore End

Music brings our school community together and gives children opportunities to be creative, develop confidence and enjoy performing.

Our specialist music teacher, Lorraine Tomes, is developing a bespoke curriculum that builds children’s skills in singing, playing instruments, listening and composing. Lessons include practical music making, body percussion, musical storytelling and opportunities to explore music from different composers, periods and cultures. Teaching is adapted so that all children can participate, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Children in Key Stage 1 receive an hour of music teaching each week, while Key Stage 2 pupils receive an hour each fortnight, taught in individual year groups. The whole school also enjoys a weekly 45-minute singing assembly.

Beyond lessons, children can join our established choir and recorder club, and private piano and guitar tuition is available at school. Our more confident pianists also play as children arrive at and leave celebration assemblies, sharing their achievements and bringing live music into school life.

During 2026–27, Mrs Tomes is refining our scheme of work and developing a progression overview showing how musical knowledge and skills build across the year groups. Our Music Development Plan below sets out our current provision and priorities for the year ahead.
